In a thrilling match on day two of the Gary Miller Charity Shield at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ottawa South United were able to edge Pickering FC 2-0.
The match kicked off and exploded into action almost immediately. Tackles were flying in within the first two minutes in what promised to be a high intense and physical match.
Ottawa south United thought they broke the deadlock early with a kick from Isia Rajakoba that forced Pickering FC’s keeper Noah Mateus to make a great diving save to steer the ball off the woodwork away.
Pickering responded with resilience, creating several chances of their own throughout the first half. There best chance came in the 18 minute when No.9 Julian Antwi fired a shot that forced Elliot Chan to make a huge save to keep the game at a deadlock.
Moments later, on a amazing through ball, Gabriel Elayouti was able to chip one over the Pickering goalkeeper to give Ottawa the first lead of the game. OSU would double their advantage minutes later on a clever finish from David Amot on a similar ball played through the Pickering back line.
Despite pressure from Pickering to cut the lead late in the first half, they found themselves down 2-0 heading into the break.
The second half began in a stalemate, but Ottawa South United continued to press for a third goal. In the 55 mintute, a free kick in the opposition half found Olivier Hamidou unmarked in front of goal, but he fired his effort over the bar from close range keeping the game within distance for Pickering.
The midfield battle intensified as the half progressed, with both teams ramping up the physicality that constantly disrupted the game’s tempo. Possession changed frequently, and neither side was able to settle into a rhythm or create clear scoring opportunities.
The match ended 2-0 in favor of Ottawa South United. OSU’s combination of clinical finishing and disciplined defending earned them a memorable win on Day 2 of the Gary Miller Charity Shield.
