A late goal by Ottawa TFC in stoppage time sent the game straight to penalties, where Ottawa's Frederico became a hero as they edge Woodbridge SC.

In a match filled with twists, tension, and physicality, Ottawa TFC pulled off a stunning comeback victory over Woodbridge SC in the U15 Boys Gary Miller Charity Shield Final at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre on Saturday, October 25.

The first half began evenly, with both sides trading chances and showing strong control in midfield. Ottawa’s first opportunity came in the seventh minute, when a dangerous free kick was whipped into the box, just missing the head of No. 77 Nolan Mulumba Ntumba for Ottawa. On the ensuing play, Woodbridge responded with a chance of their own — a volley off a corner from No. 32 Adrian Sousa that went just wide.

In the 14 minute, No.12 Hunt for Ottawa TFC unleashed a long-range effort following a well-worked counterattack, but his shot sailed over the bar, keeping the match scoreless.

Ottawa continued to apply pressure, repeatedly testing the Woodbridge defense. Despite the sustained attack, the best chance of the half fell to Woodbridge, forcing Ottawa’s keeper into two incredible back-to-back saves on Woodbridge’s No. 7 Jace Spence.

The final stretch of the first half saw both teams exchange opportunities, but neither side could find the breakthrough, and the half ended 0–0.

Both teams struggled to find a breakthrough in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Neither side created any clear-cut scoring chances, as both sat deep defensively, waiting to pounce on the counterattack.

Woodbridge first scoring opportunity came in the 60 minute when No. 26 for Woodbridge Marco Vecchiarelli saw his shot steered away by Ottawa's keeper Eric Frederico keeping the match even. Seven minutes later in the match, Sousa was able to slot one through the legs of the Ottawa keeper to give them the advantage.

Continued pressure from Ottawa late in the game paid off as they were able to tie the game from an incredible header from No. 9 Edward Rizk to send the game into penalties with just seconds remaining.

Both goalkeepers came up big in the shootout, each making two crucial saves within their team’s first four penalty attempts. In the end, it was Ottawa’s Frederico who delivered the decisive moment, stopping the final Woodbridge penalty to seal an incredible comeback victory for Ottawa TFC.
