In a thrilling conclusion to the OPDL Cup weekend at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Rush Canada defended their title in dramatic fashion, edging Aurora FC 4–3 on penalties after a 2–2 draw in regulation to capture the Boys U15 OPDL Cup Championship.
The match kicked off at 5:15 p.m. and exploded into action almost immediately. Not even a minute had gone by and Rush Canada earned a free kick at the top of the box. Rafi Ariyan stepped up and delivered a curling strike into the net — a moment of brilliance that stunned Aurora and set the tone for a high-intensity final.
Aurora responded with resilience, creating several chances throughout the first half. In the 3 minute, Agelos Albi Zazaj nearly equalized with a header that sailed just over the bar. Christian Cicione and Christian Aquino both had promising free kicks, but Rush keeper Patrick Manley Ramirez was solid between the posts.
Despite Aurora’s growing momentum and dominance in possession, both sides struggled to maintain control in midfield, with turnovers disrupting rhythm late in the half.
The second half began in a stalemate, but the match took a dramatic turn in the 49 minute when Rush’s Ashton Clare was shown a second yellow card and sent off, leaving the defending champions a player down.
Aurora capitalized quickly. In the 53 minute, Aquino’s free kick struck the crossbar, and Rahstin Boroomand Bardsiri pounced on the rebound to level the score.
Rush Canada, undeterred, reclaimed the lead in the 61 minute. Ariyan delivered a pinpoint corner that found Benjamin Crandall, whose header was clinical — a textbook set piece that restored the advantage.
Aurora continued to press and were rewarded in the 71 minute with a penalty. Cicione stepped up and buried it in the bottom right corner to tie the match once again.
With the score locked at 2–2 after full time, the match went to penalties. In a tense shootout, Rush Canada held their nerve, converting four to Aurora’s three, sealing their second consecutive U15 OPDL Cup title.
