On Sunday August 10 at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ontario, Ottawa South United (OSU) were crowned 2025 OPDL Cup Champions in the U16 Girls division, defeating Woodbridge SC 2–0 in a match defined by strong defensive play and a standout performance from Zeina Zibara.
The match began with both teams struggling to maintain quality possession, as early pressure and disciplined defending kept chances limited. OSU had the first real opportunity in the 3rd minute when Zibara broke through the defense, but her shot was collected by Woodbridge goalkeeper Joelle Loquinario. Woodbridge responded with a chance of their own, as Addison Armai capitalized on a turnover, but OSU keeper Liv Harthun made a solid save.
Woodbridge began to control possession midway through the first half, but it was OSU who struck first. In the 27th minute, Alayna Tucci found Zibara at the top of the box, who pivoted and fired a shot past Loquinario to open the scoring.
Zibara wasn’t done. Just before halftime, she helped build the play from midfield, feeding Sloane Southcombe who crossed to Tucci. After two saved attempts, the ball rebounded to Zibara, who danced past a defender and slotted home her second of the match to give OSU a 2–0 lead.
The second half saw both teams push for chances, but neither could convert. Woodbridge’s Faith Koromilos and Sara Morra each had promising looks, but Harthun and substitute keeper Taylor Raistruck stood tall. OSU nearly extended their lead in the 59th minute when Arya Winter caught Loquinario off her line, but the Woodbridge keeper recovered in time.
Despite a late push from Woodbridge, including a final attempt in stoppage time, OSU’s defense held firm to secure the clean sheet and the championship.
