In a thrilling showdown at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Oakville Soccer Club emerged victorious in dramatic fashion, defeating Liverpool FC IA Mississauga 3–2 on penalties (1–1 full time) to claim the Girls U15 OPDL Cup Championship — the first of the 2025 season.
The match kicked off at 11:15 a.m. with both teams cautiously probing each other during the opening ten minutes. But it didn’t take long for Liverpool FC IA Mississauga to seize control. Dominating possession and pressing high, they kept Oakville pinned in their own half for much of the first half.
Mississauga’s relentless attack nearly paid off in the 38th minute when Reyna Andrews blazed down the right flank, beat her marker, and delivered a pinpoint cross to Lucy McIntyre at the near post. McIntyre’s first-time effort, however, skimmed just wide. Moments later in stoppage time, Andrews again found space and floated a perfect ball to Victoria Carrabas, whose header from point-blank range sailed over the bar.
The breakthrough finally came in the dying seconds of the half. After forcing a turnover deep in Oakville’s territory, Scarlett Quira unleashed a long-range rocket that found the back of the net, giving Mississauga a deserved 1–0 lead heading into the break.
Mississauga continued their dominance early in the second half. Andrews nearly doubled the lead with a header in the 42nd minute, and Quinn Smith came close again in the 50th with a breakaway down the left, only to see her shot drift wide.
But as the match entered its final half hour, Oakville flipped the script. Their offense roared to life, pressing hard for an equalizer. In the 54th minute, Malaika Snowdon found herself unmarked at the back post on a free kick, but her effort missed the target.
Oakville’s persistence finally paid off in the 74th minute when Nikita Ochoa unleashed a stunning long-range strike that beat the keeper and leveled the match.
With the score tied at full time, the match went to penalties — and Oakville was clinical. They converted three while Mississauga failed to convert.
