The 2025 Provincial Xcel Showcase officially kicked off this past weekend, with the U16 Provincial Teams setting a high standard for the weeks ahead.
As part of the launch, Ontario’s U16 Boys faced TFC Academy, while the U16 Girls took on Canada Soccer’s National Development Centre (NDC) Ontario Next Gen Squad. The competitive two-game series featured fast-paced action, strong technical play, and showcased the depth of talent within Ontario’s Provincial Xcel Program.
The U16 Girls opened the weekend against NDC Ontario with a challenging 3-0 loss on Saturday, as they struggled to find their rhythm against a sharp and organized side. But Sunday told a different story—Team Ontario came out energized, struck first, and went toe-to-toe in a thrilling 3-3 draw that highlighted their resilience and attacking promise. It was a performance that spoke to their growth and hunger to compete.

On the U16 boys side, Ontario squared off against a talented TFC Academy squad. Saturday’s clash saw Ontario grind out a 1-0 victory. Sunday’s rematch turned into a high-scoring affair, with Ontario netting three but ultimately falling 5-3 in a high-octane shootout with TFC Academy. Despite the result, the match offered plenty of bright moments and attacking flair to build on.

The Provincial Xcel Program is a key stage in Ontario Soccer’s Talented Player Pathway, providing players with an opportunity to develop and perform in high-performance environments.
Adding to the weekend’s activities, athletes participated in a media day, taking their official team headshots and engaging in video challenges that captured the spirit and energy of Team Ontario. Keep an eye on our digital channels to catch some great social media content in the coming weeks!

- The U14 teams will participate in an exciting All-Star Series featuring the top players from across Ontario May 9-11 at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre
- The U15 and U17 Provincial Teams will travel to Laval, Quebec, to compete against the Quebec Soccer Federation's Provincial Teams from May 16-18.
