The U14 Boys Final at the 2025 Ontario Indoor Cup delivered a thrilling display of soccer on Sunday afternoon at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan. Scarborough GS United and KO | Football Academy went head-to-head in an intense, scoreless match that was ultimately decided by a dramatic penalty shootout, with Scarborough emerging as the victors.
Both teams started strong, exchanging early opportunities. KO's Nicolas Calcagno and Scarborough’s Austin Byfield kept their composure between the posts, ensuring neither side gained the upper hand. KO's Grant Longwell came close in the 10th minute after connecting with a corner pass from Armin Partovi, but his shot narrowly cleared the crossbar. Scarborough’s Matthew Beaver responded minutes later with two attempts from range, both confidently saved by Calcagno.
As the first half progressed, Scarborough’s Joseph Luzayamo made his mark with a pair of efforts, narrowly missing the target in the 14th minute and forcing a save in the 17th. KO pushed forward late in the half, with a series of chances in the 20th, 21st, and 23rd minutes, including a powerful shot from Partovi that Byfield expertly stopped.
The second half saw more defensive heroics, with Scarborough’s Deavyn Samuels and Bilal Ranzooryar making crucial blocks to deny KO promising opportunities. Byfield and Calcagno continued their stellar performances, with Byfield’s last-minute save on a long-range effort from Luke Martins preserving the deadlock.
With neither side able to break through in regular time, the match was decided in a penalty shootout, where Scarborough GS United held their nerve to claim the championship.
