This year’s program welcomed 22 participants, each dedicated to fostering growth and excellence within their clubs and communities.
The program, delivered through a blend of in-person and online sessions, provides participants with the knowledge, skills and networks essential for success as technical directors.
The 2024 TD Diploma program prepares participants for the unique challenges of the technical director role, from managing governance and aligning strategies with national frameworks to engaging stakeholders effectively.
“What distinguishes the TD Diploma is its focus on technical leadership and organizational management,” said Miranda Wiley, Manager, Player and Coach Development with Ontario Soccer. “The program addresses key challenges like governance, stakeholder communication and fostering long-term player development. It’s about equipping leaders with the tools to create positive change.”
One of this year’s participants, Keorapetse Molete, shared how the program has helped them grow in their role.
Participating in this course gave me confidence by providing a network of people with shared experiences and expertise. The collaboration and support from peers helped me see the unique strengths of our small club and how to approach organizational growth with curiosity and intentionality.
The program is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, helping participants develop their strategic thinking and leadership skills.
“Participants are encouraged to engage with real-world challenges, which makes the learning process both practical and transformative,” said Wiley.
For Molete, the module on ‘The Club as a Business’ stood out as particularly impactful.
“It provided insights into the structures and responsibilities of technical directors, including how to effectively report and communicate with various stakeholders,” he said. “It deepened my understanding of the role and highlighted areas where I could grow.”
The 2024 TD Diploma program combines biweekly virtual sessions with in-person meetings at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre, fostering consistent engagement while building meaningful connections.
“The hybrid model made the learning process both accessible and engaging,” Molete said. “The in-person sessions, in particular, were invaluable for developing relationships with peers and facilitators, adding depth to the experience.”
Reflecting on his experience, Molete offered advice to those considering the program in the future,
Get to know the people facilitating the course and your peers. This program will stretch and challenge you, but it’s also an opportunity to grow as a leader and learn from others’ unique environments. Be open, curious and have fun.
Ontario Soccer celebrates the achievements of the 2024 TD Diploma participants, whose passion and dedication are advancing the sport in meaningful ways. With enhanced skills and renewed confidence, these leaders are inspiring positive change within their clubs and communities.
