AFC Toronto continues to build momentum for its inaugural season in the Northern Super League (NSL) with the signing of Leah Pais, a 22-year-old forward from Mississauga, Ontario. As the club’s second official signing, Pais adds a dynamic presence to the roster, exemplifying the province’s soccer talent on a national and international stage.
Pais joins the team following an impressive journey that started on Ontario soccer fields, took her to NCAA Division I programs and, most recently, to play professionally in Iceland with Thróttur Reykjavík FC. Pais was a standout in League1 Ontario with Vaughan Azzurri SC, earning accolades such as the Young Player of the Year in 2019 and being named to the All-Star First Team in both 2019 and 2023. Her collegiate career spanned stints with Florida State University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of New York at Albany, where she tallied an impressive 17 goals and 10 assists.
Pais’ signing reinforces AFC Toronto and the NSL’s commitment to fostering homegrown talent while creating opportunities for Canadian players to thrive domestically. She’s also a shining example of Ontario's ability to produce top-tier soccer talent, demonstrating how local programs like League1 Ontario and grassroots clubs serve as stepping stones to success on the global stage.
For Pais, signing with AFC Toronto marks a personal and professional milestone:
This is a dream come true—not just for me, but for so many young girls across the GTA who aspire to play professionally. AFC Toronto and the Northern Super League are providing us with an incredible platform to stay, play, and grow in Canada. I’m thrilled to start this journey with the team, and I can’t wait to make an impact on and off the field.
Head Coach Marko Milanovic praised Pais’s competitive spirit and drive, saying:
Leah’s path to this point speaks volumes about the kind of player she is. She’s determined, fiercely competitive, and has a never-say-die attitude. Her energy and tenacity will undoubtedly make a significant impact on our team this season.
Stay tuned for more player announcements in the coming months!
