Ontario Soccer’s 123rd Annual Meeting of the Members featured a key leadership transition, with Alan O'Brien voted in as the new Chair of the Board, alongside other key elections and updates on the organization’s governance.

Play. Inspire. Unite.

Ontario Soccer hosted its 123rd Annual Meeting of the Members on September 21 in Mississauga at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites, marking another milestone in the organization’s storied history dating back to its founding in 1901.

The meeting was notable for marking a key leadership transition following Peter Augruso’s election on May 4, 2024 to become the President of Canada Soccer at their AMM in Montreal. With Augruso stepping into his new role, the Ontario Soccer Board of Directors saw a tight contest for his succession, while Brenda Brown served as Interim Chair of the Board.

“It has been an honour to serve as Ontario Soccer’s Interim Chair of the Board of Directors since May,” Brown said. “As I transition back to my role as Vice Chair, I am proud of what we have achieved and excited to continue supporting Ontario Soccer’s growth and success under new leadership.”

In addition to the Chair of the Board election, three Board positions were up for election at the 2024 Annual Meeting; One Independent Director as well as Regional Director positions for the North and Central regions.

In the election for Chair of the Board, Alan O’Brien was selected by the Ontario Soccer Voting Members for a three-year term.

Congratulations to Alan O’Brien, the new Chair of Ontario Soccer’s Board of Directors!

It’s an incredible honour to step into this role as Chair of Ontario Soccer’s Board of Directors, following the remarkable work of Peter Augruso. I want to extend my deepest thanks to Brenda Brown for her dedicated leadership as Interim Chair during this important transition. As Chair, my goal is to bring the skills I’ve honed in business and soccer over 40+ years to ensure that the board is actively engaged with our members and staff. Together, we’ll focus on finding proactive solutions that will strengthen the soccer community and be embraced across the broader Ontario landscape.

- Alan O'Brien, Chair of the board

For the position of Independent Director, the Voting Members re-elected Dr. Ann Pegoraro for another three-year term.

Running unopposed, Andy Charsley will return to his role as Regional Director – North, and Jacques Konig will return to his role as Regional Director – Central.

Under its governance structure, Ontario Soccer is led by a Board of Directors, composed of 12 elected individuals supported by a senior executive, the Chief Executive Officer.

The 18 District Soccer Associations, who are the “Voting Members,” are represented by a Voting Members Council. The Council is composed of the President, or designate representing each District Association in Ontario and it submits recommendations to the Ontario Soccer Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer on a number of game related matters.
