On Saturday afternoon at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan, London Alliance FC Mustangs came out on top in a thrilling 4-2 victory over Glen Shields Juventus FC to secure the U16 Boys MilkUP Ontario Cup.
London wasted no time making an impact, scoring in the very first minute of the match. Jacob Brown broke through Glen Shields' defense, drawing the keeper out, and crossed the ball to Shaolin Ly, who calmly slotted it into the net for a quick 1-0 lead.
Glen Shields looked to respond early, with Christopher Mele forcing a save from London goalkeeper Eli North in the 4th minute. Brown continued his aggressive play for London, taking another shot in the 6th minute, but Glen Shields' keeper Kevin Stipo was up to the challenge.
London’s pressure paid off again in the 10th minute. This time, Brown got his own goal, extending London’s lead to 2-0. Glen Shields tried to claw back, with North making crucial saves, including a big stop in the 12th minute to maintain London’s momentum.
Despite several chances for Glen Shields—most notably from Mele in the 27th minute and Julius Szabo in the 29th minute—North’s heroics between the posts kept London’s clean sheet intact. Glen Shields’ Amoako also had an attempt cleared off the line by Alex Scholfield in the 30th minute, as London’s defense remained solid.
As the first half neared its end, Glen Shields finally broke through in the 42nd minute. Szabo fired a shot from the top of the penalty area into the low corner to cut London’s lead to 2-1. Just a minute later, Glen Shields leveled the score at 2-2, with Szabo delivering a perfect cross to Amoako, who tapped it in with his right foot to send the teams into halftime on equal footing.
In the second half, London brought on Sawyer Kennedy as goalkeeper, who immediately made his presence known with a big save in the 49th minute. Both teams traded attacks, but the keepers on both sides held firm, preventing any breakthroughs for most of the half.
London’s breakthrough finally came in the 76th minute. Gianluca DeCandido capitalized on a misstep from Glen Shields' side when their keeper had come out of position, and slotted the ball into the net, restoring London’s lead at 3-2.
With Glen Shields pushing for an equalizer, London’s Nathan Myers, who had played primarily in defense throughout the match, delivered the knockout blow in added time. Myers scored to make it 4-2, securing the win and the U16 Boys MilkUP Ontario Cup for London Alliance FC.
