On a bright Saturday morning at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Niagara United Juventus delivered a dominant performance, defeating Barrie SC 6-0 to win the U13 Girls MilkUP Ontario Cup.
Niagara United wasted no time taking control of the match, with Ella Yetman setting the tone early. In just the third minute, Yetman sent a precise cross into the box, where Riley Woehl was positioned to slot the ball into the net, giving Niagara the 1-0 lead.
The offensive pressure from Niagara continued relentlessly. In the 14th minute, Yetman found herself with a golden opportunity off a corner kick. Her shot was blocked, but Daytona Wiens was quick to react, finishing the rebound to double Niagara’s lead.
Just four minutes later, Niagara struck again. Michela Lombordi unleashed a powerful strike from distance, catching the Barrie defense off guard and making it 3-0.
Despite the scoreline, Barrie SC’s goalkeeper, Abriana Agostino, showed her resilience, making a critical save in the 37th minute to prevent further damage before halftime.
In the second half, Barrie SC looked to turn things around, with Tessa Orieux coming close in the 49th minute. However, her shot sailed wide, and the momentum remained with Niagara.
Niagara’s relentless attack broke through once more in the 60th minute. Yetman, who had been a constant threat all game, finally found the back of the net after challenging Agostino three times in quick succession, driving a shot into the far corner.
The final goal in regulation time came just three minutes later. Yetman again played the creator, driving toward the net and setting up Mya Stienstra. Although Agostino blocked Stienstra’s attempt, Ava Covelli was there to clean up the rebound, sealing a 5-0 lead for Niagara.
Niagara wasn’t finished quite yet. In added time, a corner kick gave Woehl another chance to shine, and she made the most of it, scoring her second goal of the match and capping off a 6-0 victory.
