On a breezy Sunday night at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Thornhill Bolts secured a 3-1 victory over Mississauga Prostars FC to claim the U17 Boys title at the 2024 MilkUP Ontario Cup. Despite a strong opening from Prostars, Thornhill's relentless attack and clinical finishing led them to the trophy.
Prostars came out strong in the opening minutes, with Jacob Nogueria testing Thornhill goalkeeper Erik Zizek in the 5th minute, followed by attempts from Marko Bedenikovic and Nogueria again, but Zizek was equal to the task. Thornhill responded with a close header from Marcus Fracasso in the 15th minute, but Prostars keeper Evan Reis made a critical point-blank save to keep the score level.
Both teams exchanged chances throughout the first half, but it wasn’t until the second half that the game came alive. Prostars opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when Nogueria’s cross found Lenny Atiyota, who finished the play with composure. However, Thornhill quickly struck back, with Justin Capitao equalizing just two minutes later in the 55th.
Thornhill continued their momentum and took the lead in the 62nd minute when Caesar Augustus headed in a free kick from Fracasso. Fracasso himself sealed the win in the 64th minute, driving through midfield and firing a low shot into the corner of the net to make it 3-1.
Despite Reis making key saves to keep Prostars in the game, Thornhill outshot Prostars 26-7 and controlled the tempo, securing their victory and lifting the U17 Boys 2024 MilkUP Ontario Cup.
