The game kicked off with Rush Canada taking an aggressive role, controlling much of the possession in the opening minutes. However, that changed quickly as it was Vaughan who opened the scoring in the 27th minute, when Rush conceded a kick outside their penalty box which Vaughan’s Yoni Zur was able to convert on a powerful header despite heavy congestion in the six-yard box. The first half would end 1-0 in favour of Vaughan, who appeared the stronger side on the stat sheet with a total of eight shots with five on target. On the other side, Rush Canada had a total of two shots - both being on target.
Heading into the second half only down 1, Rush Canada turned up the offensive pressure in the second half. Their pressure was awarded in the 66th minutes when Hussain Hanif drove down the right flank and centred the ball into the six yard box which Ashton Claire converted for the 1-1 equalizer.
Moments later, Rush took the lead in the 72nd minute on a similar play where Hanif once again drove down the right flank, this time his cross went to the back post. The ball was then headed back into the centre of the net where Alex Rostogoyov converted for Rush’s second goal. Despite some late pressure from Vaughan, Rush was able to hold on and capture the OPDL Cup.
