The U16 Girls Final, at the 2023 MilkUP Ontario Cup Final, was a fast-paced match from start to finish. SC Toronto Eagles earned the championship title Saturday afternoon at the Ontario Soccer Centre, defeating Scrosoppi FC Black Halton 7-6 in sudden death after a very tight matchup.
Toronto’s Emma Yanoff got her team started on the right foot, scoring off a free kick in the 9th minute which came after a Scrosoppi player was called for a hand ball from nearly 25 yards out. Yanoff made a perfect strike over a wall of five and into the top corner.
After that goal, it was a fairly even first half with both teams making three attempts total to score, and each committing one foul.
The best scoring opportunities for Scrosoppi came in the 10th minute from Telaijah Folkes, Evangeline Novosel in the 13th minute, Omelle Leudjeu in the 29th minute, and Grace Larsen in the 77th minute. Meanwhile, Toronto’s Maggie Lamb, Djelanya Constant, and Kate Morgan each made a solid attempt for their team at the end of the 69th minute.
Scrosoppi finally tied the score late in the 86th minute with a goal from Alejandra Mena-Escorcia, after a cross from Sara Muinudin.
With a 1-1 draw at full time, the game went into penalties. After a back-and-forth nine round shootout, Toronto ended up taking the win with a final goal from Morgan.
