Mississauga Supernova FC Blue rung in the final weekend of the MilkUP Ontario Cup Finals with a 1-0 victory over the Oakville Blue Devils. The U13 Girls Final took place Saturday morning at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
Although the score remained at nil-nil until the end of the first half, both teams came out strong, showcasing some strong defense. Both goalkeepers were also on point. Neither let the ball get past them despite both teams having multiple scoring opportunities in the first 40 minutes.
Oakville’s Lily Jamieson was eager to score, making good attempts in the 26th and 29th minute, but couldn’t find the back of the net against Mississauga’s Juliette Poulin.
Mississauga’s best chance to score came in the 40th minute when Ava Ricci tore down the right flank and shot. The goalkeeper deflected the shot, and Mississauga’s Emaan Zeewari was there for the assist, but Oakville’s Nikita Ochoa got to it first, clearing the ball out of their box.
The scoring opened in the 47th minute with a goal from Paige Fox for Mississauga. The scoring play began with Abby Ellinas who drove up the field and took a shot that was deflected by Oakville’s goalkeeper, and Fox tapped in the rebound.
While both teams fought hard for more goals, with Oakville taking 11 shots and Mississauga taking 4 – Fox's goal would remain the only one of the match.
