Sunday’s mid-day match at the Ontario Soccer Centre saw the London Alliance FC Mustangs take on Berlin HP Kitchener for the 2023 MilkUP Ontario Cup. After a 2-2 draw, FC Berlin was triumphant in the U17 Girls Final, winning 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

London Alliance opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Kailey Hill took a long range shot that bounced off the crossbar and went directly into the net. Five minutes later, Hill’s teammate Brooklyn Anderson secured a second goal when FC Berlin’s goalkeeper slid for the ball, leaving the net wide open.

The score was 2-0 at halftime, but FC Berlin came back for vengeance, determined to even out the score in the remaining half of the match.

FC Berlin did just that, with Isabella Velasquez Osorio scoring in the 53rd minute and Akeelah Omokhua in the 60th. Both players took advantage of loose balls – one off a corner kick and another from a high looping cross.

The match went into penalties at full time with the score remaining at 2-2. London goalkeeper Annelise Borm blocked one shot, but her team missed twice against FC Berlin’s Priscilla Blemano. It was FC Berlin’s final shooter, Jasmeet Atwal, that secured the 4-2 win with a shot to the top corner.
