Pair of Ontario Clubs Set to Represent Ontario at Futsal Canadian Championships this Weekend

Scarborough GS United will Compete in the Women’s Division while 9 de Octubre will Compete in the Men’s Division Representing Ontario

The 2023 Futsal Canadian Championship kicks off this Thursday and is scheduled to take place April 13 to 16 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Calgary, Alberta. The tournament will be hosted by the Calgary United Soccer Association in partnership with Tourism Calgary.

New this year, is the inclusion of the Women’s division after a landmark decision by Canada Soccer to expand the tournament and hold the first-ever Women’s Futsal Canadian Championship. Both the Men’s and Women’s futsal club competitions will be hosted during the same week.

Representing Team Ontario in the Women’s division will be Scarborough GS United, who dominated in the Women’s Ontario Futsal Cup Finals with a resounding 6-0 victory to advance to the Futsal Canadian Championship.

Representing Team Ontario in the Men’s division will be 9 de Octubre Toronto of FC Emery, who came out on top in a tightly contested Men’s Ontario Futsal Cup Finals that needed penalties to separate the sides.

The Futsal Canadian Championship has been hosted annually since 2015, although the competition was put on hold for two years because of the pandemic before it made its return in April 2022. Canada Soccer previously hosted a women’s futsal exhibition match at the 2016 edition featuring all-stars from Québec against Futsal Club Toronto.
