Scarborough GS United Defeat Windsor Caboto SC 6-0 to Win 2023 Women’s Ontario Futsal Cup

Play. Inspire. Unite.

In the Women’s Ontario Futsal Cup on Saturday, it was Scarborough GS United facing off against Windsor Caboto at the Trio Sportsplex in Vaughan, Ontario, with the winner’s advancing to the first-ever Women’s Futsal Canadian Championship.

Going into the Finals, you could say Scarborough was the underdog considering they had lost to Windsor 2-1 in round robin action. In addition, Scarborough went into the Finals with a 1-1 record with six goals and two goals allowed. Windsor on the other hand, was 2-0 and had scored nine goals and conceded two.

Despite the odds being tilted in the other direction, Scarborough got off to a fast start and never looked back. It took them three minutes to net their fist goal, which came on the foot of Forward, Ashley Osorio, who pounced on a rebound to beat Windsor Goalkeeper, Samira Somer.

Despite the final score, Windsor put up a great effort, peppering Scarborough Goalkeeper, Sarah-Anisha Bradbury, with a variety of shots in the first half and keeping it a one-score game for the majority of the half. Scarborough did not get their second until 30 seconds before halftime when Alicja Busza fired a long-range shot into the bottom right corner.

The second half was all Scarborough. They would net an additional four goals from Alessia Da Silva, Shannen Jainudeen, and Osoria and Busza, who added a second each.

With the win, Scarborough GS United earn the right to represent Team Ontario at the first-ever Women’s Futsal Canadian Championship which will be held alongside the Men’s Futsal Canadian Championship at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Calgary, Alberta in April 2023.
