FC Toronto Defeat Toronto United 2-1 to Win 2023 Boys U13 Ontario Indoor Cup Finals

Play. Inspire. Unite.

It was a battle of two Toronto teams in the second game of the day with Toronto United meeting FC Toronto in the Boys U13 Finals at the Ontario Soccer Centre. It was a highly tactical battle as both teams implemented contrasting game plans which were both successful.

In the first half, FC Toronto dominated possession, barely letting United get a touch. There first good chance came in the fourth minute when Xavier Grant stole the ball in midfield and played a nice give-and-go to create a half-break away, but United Defender Yazan Qamheiah was able to get some pressure on Grant as he fired, resulting in a rather tamed effort that was easily saved.

Following the effort, FC Toronto continued to dominate possession, to the point where their goalkeeper Jasper Krasek, often dribble the ball into the United half with no pressure. At one point, he even unleashed a long range effort that was not far off. United, on the other had, chose to conceded possession, to stay in there defensive shape and to counter attack.

In the sixth minute, United’s plan almost came off as they created a turnover in transition sending Matthew Daniels on a break away, but Krasek, who was far outside his net near half court, forced Daniels wide. Daniels was able to dribble around the keeper, but his long-range shot, from the right side of the halfway line, was just wide.

United’s game plan did pay dividends in the 19th minute when they intercepted a pass from Krasek creating a two on nothing that was dispatched by Daniels to give them the opening goal.

Moments later, it was FC Toronto’s game plan that paid off. On the ensuing kickoff, Captain Tomek Dyckowski, played a perfect through ball to Jacob Gil who poked the ball past United’s onrushing goalkeeper, Francesco Nesci, to give them the equalizing goal.

The game would remain 1-1 at the halftime mark.

The teams adjusted there game plans in the second half. Although FC held the majority of possession, they were less aggressive with said possession, choosing to keep Krasek in net. United, on the other hand, held much more possession and created more chances.

It was however, FC who created the first chances of the half. Two minutes in, United pressed the ball full field on a goal kick, and created a turnover for Gil, who unleashed a long range shot that was saved by Nesci. On a goal kick moments later, United once again turned the ball over which lead to a one-time shot from Alexander Bohorquez, who could not beat an onrushing Nesci.

United had the majority of good chances following those opening minutes, but FC’s Krasek was up to the task, making a plethora of saves to keep them in the game.

FC would reward Krasek for his efforts in the 40th minute, when Dyczkowski and Bohorquez would thread two passes through the heart of the United defense to Grant, who would tap home the game winning goal.

The late goal would stand and propel, FC Toronto to the 2-1 victory over neighboring, Toronto United FC, to give them the 2023 Boys U13 Indoor Cup Championship.
