It was a tight, end-to-end affair in the first match of the final weekend of the 2023 Ontario Indoor Cup, with Mississauga Supernova taking on Glen Shields Juventus FC at the Ontario Soccer Centre indoor field on Sunday morning.
The first clear chance of the match came to Glen Shields when Chloe Lee Wing flicked a header off a kick in just over Mississauga keeper Juiliette Poulin.
Despite Mississauga having more chances early in the first half, Glen Shields took the early advantage when keeper Janelle Lovisa, hit a dropkick to teammate Eden Allen, who scrambled away from a defender, and with an assist from Kenley Uddenberg, found the back of the net to give Glen shield the advantage.
With six minutes left in the half, Mississauga created their best chance of the half when they pressured the ball and forced a turnover, leading to a shot from Anneli Teeaar, that went inches wide.
A minute later, a lethal through ball from Glen Shield’s Captain Maya Flanagan, found Victoria Gomes who slid the ball into the net to double their lead.
In the 23rd minute, Glen Shields nearly tripled their lead but Camila Sierra saw her shot hit off the crossbar and go out of play.
After immediate pressure to begin the second half, Mississauga finally broke through with a goal of their own and cut the lead in half. The goal came on a set corner kick, where the ball was hit along the ground to Cala Hancock at the top edge of the box, who hit a gorgeous shot into the top left corner.
Mississauga had several other good chances to tie the game, but ultimately came up short.
Glen Shields would add a late goal from Chloe Lee Wing off of a corner from Victoria Gomes, to secure the victory and the 2023 Girls U13 2023 Ontario Indoor Cup Championship.
