Mississauga defeat London 2-0 to win 2023 Girls U16 Ontario Indoor Cup Finals

Play. Inspire. Unite.

It was another exciting and tight match-up in game three of the 2023 Ontario Indoor Cup Finals with London Alliance FC Mustangs taking on Mississauga Supernova at the Ontario Soccer Centre Indoor Field on Sunday afternoon.

Opposite to the other games that happened earlier in the day, both teams started slower with limited chances in the first ten minutes. The best opportunity went to Mississauga's Sofia Raco, who fired a shot just wide in the third minute.

Despite the limited chances, London Keeper Shayleigh Olthoff was strong and made the difficult saves look easy, including a collection of diving saves in the 11th minute, keeping the match at 0-0.

London’s first good chance came in the 14th minute when Bella Martins fired a shot that just went wide.

Ultimately, neither team could break the deadlock and the game would remain 0-0 after a half.

In the second, Mississauga came out the stronger side, creating a collection of opportunities, notable one in the first minute, when Sofia Raco taped in a rebound to give Mississauga the go ahead goal. In the 35th minute, Layah Haye, fired a shot that went just wide.

London had some chances of their own, and a moment later, a header from Martins nearly equalized the match.

The game would remain 1-0 until the final minute of the match when Mississauga’s Maja Cenanovic chased down a long ball forward, muscled her defender off the ball, dribbled around the keep and passed the ball into the net securing the 2-0 win for Mississauga.
