It was an end-to-end affair in the opening match of the 2023 Ontario Indoor Cup Finals, where London Alliance FC met Thunder Bay Chill in the Boys U14 division at the Ontario Soccer Centre Indoor Field on Sunday morning.

The first chance of the match fell to Thunder Bay when a cross from Ethan Dewar almost beat London Keeper, Sawyer Kennedy. Despite the early chance, it was London who controlled most of the possession in a comfortable manner, with most of Thunder Bay’s chances coming from counterattacks and set pieces.

Despite most of the opportunities falling to London, Thunder Bay was able to stay in the game thanks to their Keeper Finley Hebert, who made several huge saves in the first half.

Despite the heroics from Hebert, London eventually opened the scoring with just a minute remaining in the first half, when Dylan Demolo came up the right wing, dribbled past a defender and fired a shot in the top near post past Hebert.

In the second half, it was more of London on the front foot with Thunder Bay looking to counter attack.

London created the first good chance of the second. In the 38th minute, goal-scorer Demelo stepped up to win the ball while playing as the last man back, drove forward and played a beautiful cross to Carter Bennet who’s first time effort went just wide.

Moments later, Demelo had another chance when a kick in was crossed right to him at the far post, but his headed effort went just wide.

London had several other very good scoring chances in the second half, and their pressure eventually paid of in the 46th minute when Thunder Bay’s Ethan Dewar scored an own goal as he made a gallant effort to intercept a cross on a two-on-one break.

Thunder Bay did add a goal in extra, but it was too little, too late, as London secured the 2-1 victory to win the Boys U14 2023 Ontario Indoor Cup
