Some of the best blind and visually impaired soccer players in Ontario took to the pitch this past weekend in Mississauga at the 2022 Ontario Parasport Games.
North Mississauga SC and Pickering FC battled it out in a head-to-head four match series, played at the Paramount Field House indoor soccer facility. All four matches were tightly contested games, but North Mississauga SC edged out Pickering FC in 3 of the 4 matches.
North Mississauga SC won the championship match, 2-0, securing the Gold, while Pickering FC were awarded Silver.
Fatlum El Shani of North Mississauga SC was the top scorer in the tournament, netting 7 goals over four games.
Since debuting at the 2017 Ontario Parasport Games (OPG), the 5-A-Side Soccer competition has been an OPG staple and fan favourite.
The Ontario Parasport Games were first introduced in 1975 by the City of Cambridge. Since then, the OPG have grown to over 500 participants competing in 10 sports.
