The Ontario Indoor Cup wrapped up in thrilling fashion this weekend as the Ontario Soccer Centre played host to the U-16 Boys and Girls divisions.  

The Indoor Cup, which began with over 100 teams and was slightly delayed due to public health restrictions, was whittled down to the final two divisions, with each vying for the Ontario Indoor Cup in the finals on Family Day.

The U-16 Girls opened the action on the holiday Monday with goals galore. The Erin Mills Eagles cruised to a 7-1 win over Soo City United to give them the U-16 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup.

The U-16 Men’s Ontario Indoor Cup final was much closer as the Thunder Bay Chill and Jarvis Scarborough battled to a 2-2 tie. In penalties, Chill keeper Erik Aegard made two stops to lead his side to victory.

The matches today followed on the success of the previous weekend, when the U-13 and U-14 divisions crowned four champions. 

The Ontario Indoor Cup is a young Club competition in comparison to the Outdoor Cup, which was first played in 1901. The Indoor Cup began in 1987. Over the years it has moved from boarded facilities to the former Skydome and then to soccer specific no board venues.

The popularity of the indoor game has resulted in a demand for the Ontario Indoor Cup in most age divisions. The level of participation has taken the competition from a centrally staged Round-Robin format, to regional play-downs across the province, culminating with the Final Round hosted at The Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
