Canada Soccer “C” Licences Announced

The Canada Soccer Coach C Licence is the entry-level course for the Licensing Stream pathway and prepares the coach to progress to the Development Stream (Children or Youth) or Performance Stream (Senior).

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce registration is now open for two new Canada Soccer Coach C Licence courses, which will begin on September 22, 2021 and October 5, 2021 respectively.

These courses offer a theory component (delivered online) and an in-person practical component, which will take place at the Ontario Soccer Centre, under the Ontario Soccer Return to Play Guidelines.

Overview:

The Canada Soccer Coach C Licence is the entry-level course for the Licensing Stream pathway and prepares the coach to progress to the Development Stream (Children or Youth) or Performance Stream (Senior). The C Licence involves the facilitation of learning opportunities for the coach to develop an understanding of the coaching process.

What do you learn?

The C Licence content involves theoretical and practical components focusing on holistic, effective coaching. The modules covered throughout the workshop includes content on:

  • Vision, Mission, Values;
  • Understanding the Person, the Practice & the Play;
  • Safe Sport, Mental Health & Well-being in coaching;
  • The Coaching Process;
  • Designing and delivering a training session;
  • Introduction to the Principles of Play;
  • Developing the Individual Player;
  • Introduction to the use of Technology in Coaching.

Coaches who obtain a C Licence Certification, upon successful completion of the evaluation component, will be able to act as a Head Coach in some Regional Leagues as well as hold an Assistant Coach role within the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL).

What are the course pre-requisites?

Prior to registering for the C Licence course, coaches must complete the following:

The completion of Learn to Train OR Soccer for Life is strongly recommended. 

Dates & Location

Theory Component - Online sessions will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on the following dates:

  • Course #1 (Wednesdays):
    • September 22
    • September 29
    • October 6
    • October 13
    • October 20
    • October 27
    • November 3
    • November 10
  • Course #2 (Tuesdays):
    • October 5
    • October 12
    • October 19
    • October 26
    • November 2
    • November 9
    • November 16
    • November 23

The On-field Practical Session will be held at the Ontario Soccer Centre (7601 Martin Grove Road - Vaughan, Ontario) from 8:00am to 5:00pm on the following dates:

  • Course #1 on Friday, November 19
  • Course #2 on Friday, December 3

NOTE: 100% attendance and engagement is required for the duration of the course.

Structure & Cost of the C Licence Course

The course is currently structured using a blended learning approach consisting of eight online sessions, delivered through Zoom, and one in-person, on-field practical session at a total cost of $850.00 per coach. This fee includes the cost of a single evaluation attempt.

Application and Registration

Coaches are required to apply for the course via Coach Centre, providing proof of their completion of the pre-requisites. Upon being approved, coaches are then able to register for the course they are interested in.
