The majority of Ontario Soccer funding is invested straight back into program operations such as grassroots development, coach development, match official development, competitions, events, high performance programs and administrational services.

On December 12, 2020, the Voting Members of Ontario Soccer (District Presidents) approved new player membership registration fees for Ontario Soccer’s Outdoor Season. The Voting Members, noting the impact of the pandemic and to minimize the effect on their members, approved the new fees to go into effect for the 2022 Outdoor season.

For the last decade, as the demand for better services and programs has grown, Ontario Soccer’s resources have not kept pace to match that demand, not to mention the cost of inflation over this period of time. Since 2012, there has been no increase in the Ontario Soccer Outdoor player membership registration fees.

Before we look at where that investment will go, it is important to understand Ontario Soccer’s different funding sources (note: 2019 pre-COVID data):

  • 46% of Ontario Soccer revenue comes from participant membership registration fees;
  • 34% comes from Ontario Soccer programming, courses and clinics,
  • 14% comes from the Ontario Soccer Centre;
  • 4% comes from Sponsor Revenue;
  • 2% comes from Provincial Government Grants.

The majority of Ontario Soccer funding is invested straight back into program operations such as grassroots development, coach development, match official development, competitions, events, high performance programs and administrational services.

The use of participant membership registration funding by Ontario Soccer is broken down as follows:

  • 54% goes back into Program Operations and Delivery;
  • 21% is collected on behalf of Canada Soccer, which they use for their own Program Operations;
  • 15% is used in the operation and maintenance of the Ontario Soccer Centre;
  • 6% is used to purchase insurance for Ontario Soccer’s membership;
  • 4% is used for administration fees.

The Ontario Soccer Player Membership Registration Fees, beginning with the 2022 Outdoor Season, will increase by the following amounts:

  • Development U10 & Under:                    $1.31
  • Development U11-U12:                           $0.91
  • Youth Recreational (U13-U18):              $0.91
  • Youth Competitive (U13-U18):               $2.72
  • Senior Recreational:                                $1.43
  • Senior Competitive:                                 $3.18

Ontario Soccer’s annual player registration fees (as shown above) represent only a small portion of a player’s total fee.  The overall player registration fees are made up of Ontario Soccer fees (including Canada Soccer’s player levy), combined with Club/Academy and District fees.

It is also important to note that for a decade Ontario Soccer was absorbing a loss of .79 per registration for Developmental Players U10 and under. An increase of $1.31 is the adjustment.

The resulting new investment will help fund greater development programming across the Ontario Soccer membership structure and cover operating costs of inflation, which means developing better coaches, and match officials, as well as improving competitions, events and programs.
