The Masters Provincial Soccer Championships, the first provincial championship held in the post-covid era, concluded with a penalty thriller in the final match of the tournament.

To get to the final, Gloucester Celtic defeated Scarborough GS Masters in the opening round and Thornhill Madrid Masters in the semi-finals.

They were joined by the Scarborough Malvern Magic. Scarborough defeated Mississauga AC Diavoli and Gloucester Inter Masters on their way to the final.

And as the first provincial championship held since 2019, it didn't disappoint as they two luminary sides went to battle for 90 + minutes at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York on Sunday.

Despite a number of chances by both sides during regular time, neither was able to find the back of the net and the game would be decided in penalties.

Penalties would prove to be equally close.

After missing their first penalty, Gloucester Celtic would rally off four straight goals from the penalty spot to win 4-3 on penalties and be crowned the Masters Provincial Championship.

Scoring for Gloucester in penalties was: Jason Da Costa, Emmanoel Desjeunes, Alexandre Walker and Jorge Gutierrez with the winner.

Scarborough had goals from: Kurt Ramsey, Sultan Haitham and David Pabon.

The Masters Provincial Soccer Championships began in 2006. This Provincial Championship was created for teams in Over-35 leagues all over the province.
