Play. Inspire. Unite.

In accordance with Public Health guidelines, the annual Ontario Soccer Talent Identification process executed has been adjusted for the 2021 Outdoor Season.

The Ontario Soccer Provincial Xcel Program has released the player recommendation process for Technical Staff of Member Organizations, which now appears on the Ontario Soccer website in the High Performance, Player Talented Pathway section.

This process will allow players in Ontario, currently participating outside the Talented Player Pathway, to have an opportunity to be recommended by a certified and qualified Ontario Soccer Member Organization Head Coach or Technical Director.

In order to be considered as a qualified and certified coach, the coach must have a minimum of a Canada Soccer National B Licence OR Youth Licence OR a foreign equivalent. Submissions from non-qualified or non-certified coaches will not be considered.

Before beginning the process, it is highly recommended that the coach, player and parent involved read and understand the information on the Recommendation Process and relevant FAQ’s found on the Ontario Soccer website.

The online submission form for the player recommendation process for the recommending coach to execute can be accessed by opening this link.

Player Recommendation Report

The recommending coach will then complete the Coach Information page and provide their NCCP and Ontario Soccer registration numbers to verify their coaching certification level and status. If no NCCP number (i.e. foreign license) is available, please provide a scanned copy of the Coaching Certificate as outlined on the page.

The recommending coach, will then be directed to provide a link to the full, unedited match in which the player participated via a file sharing service such DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc. The video must be available for download and the gamesheet (identifying the player’s name & shirt number), and their positions played in the match should also be provided. This video will be professionally tagged and analyzed by MSA, as the preferred Ontario Soccer Match Video Analysis Service Provider, with a report containing performance related statistics for each recommended player being generated in the process and confidentially provided to Ontario Soccer.

To further support the submission, the coach will then download and complete the appropriate player evaluation form for each individual player being recommended. This form, used in the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) for Player Assessments, can be found online. Once completed, the document must be uploaded as prompted on the relevant page.

The Recommending coach should have the following available:

  • Player’s name
  • Player’s date of birth
  • Player’s OSCAR-Ontario Soccer number
  • Player’s Email(s) contact

To submit a report to be analyzed, a recommending coach will be prompted to pay a fee of $75 per player per video. Please note, that coaches can submit additional videos for a single player through a second unique submission, as well as recommend multiple players through a single video submission at the per player cost noted above for each video analysis. Players and the recommending coach, as part of their fee, will receive their match report as provided by the Video Analysis Service Provider, MSA.

The recommending coach is to submit the completed online package by, or before, the closing date of November 26, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2021 at 11:45 p.m.

The Ontario Soccer Provincial Xcel Program will review the player recommendation packages and assess, if the player should receive an invite. Assessments of Key Performance Indicators and Statistical Benchmarks will be compared to those within the OPDL to determine whether an invitation will be extended to each player. Player recommendation packages submitted using the online process will be the only ones that will be reviewed. Incomplete or inaccurate packages will not be considered for review.
