Play. Inspire. Unite.

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce that the training of all Learning Facilitators has concluded and that member Districts, Clubs and Academies will now be able to apply to host the practical component of the Grassroots Coach Education program starting on Monday, July 26, 2021.

The courses included in the Grassroots Coach Education program are Coaching Soccer in Canada (which does not have a practical component), Active Start (U4-U5 players), Fundamentals (U6-U8 players), Learn to Train (U9-U12 players), and Soccer for Life (U13+ players).

Member organizations can apply to host any of these courses via Coach Centre for a start date as early as Saturday, August 7, 2021. The approximate two-week difference in the opening of the application window to host a course and the first potential practical start date will allow the minimum time necessary for Host Organizations, Learning Facilitators, and Ontario Soccer to prepare the best possible experience for coaches across the province.

Prior to submitting an application to Ontario Soccer, all prospective hosts are asked to carefully review the updated 2021 Grassroots Coach Education Program Information Brochure, which can be found on OntarioSoccer.net.

Given that the courses are now divided into two distinctive parts – theory and practical – all are reminded that participants must first complete the theory component of the courses online through Canada Soccer’s Academy Platform. Once completed, coaches can then search and register for a practical component of their choosing via Coach Centre.

Hosts are responsible for verifying that any and all participants that apply to attend a practical component have completed the theory component, prior to approving the participant’s application to attend the host’s course. To support this process, Ontario Soccer has generated a list of Theory-Trained coaches, which is updated weekly, online for hosts to access on OntarioSoccer.net.

Please note that Hosts must be logged in to their SportsEngine account in order to access the webpage linked above, as it is protected. To request permission to access the Theory Trained Coach webpage, or for any questions regarding the Hosting of the Practical component of the Grassroots Coach Education courses, please contact Alex Di Noia.
