The Ontario Cup, Ontario Soccer’s Provincial Championship, is the largest Club competition of its kind in Canada. As one of the oldest and most prestigious amateur sporting events in the country, the Ontario Cup was first staged in 1915 and has operated continuously since, with the exception of the World War II period and during the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020.

The 2021 Ontario Cup will mark the 105th year of the Competition.

The Ontario Cup Entry Deadline, which was extended to May 26, 2021 has now been extended to June 9, 2021.

The deadline for Club approval of Ontario Cup team entries has been extended to June 16, 2021.

Please note that should the 2021 Ontario Cup competition be cancelled, all teams that have entered will receive a full refund.

The 2021 Ontario Cup Entry Form is available on the Ontario Soccer website. It can be found here

With the ever-evolving changes to the COVID-19 situation, Ontario Soccer recognizes the need for flexibility and potential modifications to the competition structure, as time progresses.  Ontario Soccer’s highest priority is, of course, our participants’ safety and ensuring that the competition is held in alignment with the Government of Ontario’s restrictions and directives.

Under 13 to Under 17 Divisions

As a result of recent announcements regarding the 3-Step approach to re-opening in Ontario, the timelines do not allow for a competition format that includes a Tournament Round for Under 13 to Under 17 divisions.

The 2021 Ontario Cup for the Under 13 to Under 17 divisions will change to a Knock-out format with a two game guarantee.  All teams in these divisions will be guaranteed to be scheduled for at least two games in the competition.

Under this new format, all teams in a division will play in an Opening Round.  The Opening Round may consist of some teams playing Saturday with winners playing again on Sunday and some teams playing only on Sunday.  It will depend on the number of teams entered in the division.  Teams that win on Sunday will advance to either a Second Round or Third Round in the Ontario Cup, again depending on the number of teams in the division.  Teams that play only one game in the Opening Round and do not win, will advance to a Re-Entry or Second Chance Round.  Similar to the Opening Round, this round may consist of some games on Saturday and on Sunday.  Teams that win their Sunday games of this Round will advance to the Second or Third Round of the Ontario Cup.  The remainder of the competition will be played under a single-game knock-out format.

A sample Draw Chart showing a 35-Team division can be found here.

The new competition format will have a modified Ontario Cup competition schedule.  The new schedule reflects a later start date that will see the Ontario Cup commence in July.  The revised Ontario Cup schedule is now posted on the website and can be found here.

Under 18 and Under 21 Divisions

Unfortunately, due to the current situation with provincial restrictions and the low enrolment numbers, the Under 18 Boys, Under 18 Girls, Under 21 Men’s and Under 21 Women’s divisions of the Ontario Cup will be cancelled for 2021.  Teams in these divisions that wish to participate in the 2021 Ontario Cup may play up to the Senior Men’s or Senior Women’s divisions.

Ontario Soccer will continue to carefully monitor the status of COVID-19 restrictions, and we are prepared to make further changes to the Ontario Cup format, as well as the dates, if necessary.

Please check the Ontario Cup web pages for further updates.

Masters Provincial Championships

The deadline for entering the Masters Provincial Championships has also been extended to June 9, 2021.  The online Entry Form will continue to be available until that date.  The Entry Form can be found here.
