Play. Inspire. Unite.

Ontario Soccer, in consultation with Canada Soccer and the Government of Ontario, continues to monitor the most recent developments surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the resulting public health crisis and Ontario Soccer’s Return to Play Plan.

In light of the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario Soccer has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 edition of the Ontario Futsal Cup.

As well, Canada Soccer made the decision Thursday to cancel the 2021 Futsal Canadian Championships.

The exciting and fast-paced sport of Futsal is the official FIFA version of indoor 5 a-side soccer and the only internationally recognized small-sided game.

Ontario Soccer has embraced futsal as a key initiative in its 2019 to 2021 Strategic Plan, is in the process of developing a provincial Futsal strategy and implementation plan to further grow this vibrant game for the benefit of our members.

The Ontario Futsal Cup is the provincial championship for Futsal in Ontario and marks the pinnacle of every season. This competition began in 2006 with 12 teams and has grown over the years with over 90 teams registered to play in 2020. Over the last 14 years, the sport itself has seen significant growth and interest and the Ontario Futsal Cup is seeing higher levels of competition within the sport.

Ontario Soccer took into account the regional and provincial realities of the requirements to host the Ontario Futsal Cup in early 2021, as well as the challenges of completing competitions due to the restriction of matches in some regions.

The health and safety of our participants was considered first and foremost in our decision.

The Ontario Futsal Cup competition will return in 2022.
