Ontario Futsal Cup headed for a historic weekend

For the first time ever. the U-18 boys and girls Ontario Futsal Cup will be part of the Ontario Winter Games. As well, the Men's Ontario Futsal Cup recently kicked off and the semis are now set

The 2020 Ontario Winter Games will be hosted by the City of Orillia from February 27-March 1. There will be 27 sports competing over four days with approximately 3,500 athletes, coaches, officials and dignitaries.

For the first time ever, the sport of Futsal will be included in the 2020 Ontario Winter Games. The 2020 Ontario Futsal Cup will be played in the Winter Games in the U-18 Boys and Girls divisions.  Teams which have entered the Ontario Futsal Cup in these divisions will be given an opportunity to qualify for the Final Round of the Futsal Cup which will be held at the Ontario Winter Games. 

There are 8 Boys teams and 8 Girls teams which have qualified for the Games. 

Futsal is one of Ontario Soccer’s strategic initiatives in its 2019-2021 Strategic Plan aiming to grow and develop the sport of futsal through programs, services and new initiatives.

The Gold Medal matches will be recorded and shared following the completion of each of the finals. Stories, photos and additional coverage will be available following the event.

Men's Ontario Futsal Cup Semi-Finals now set

The Men’s Ontario Futsal Cup Tournament Round was played on February 15-16, 2020 at Seneca College in North York.  There were two pools of four teams and the top two teams in each group advance to the Semi-Finals.

In Group A, three teams were tied in points at the end of the Round Robin.  After applying the tie breaking procedures in the Competition Rules Toronto Idolo finished in first and Gloucester Celtic finished in second place.

In Group B, Futsal Club Toronto was the top team with Toronto United taking second place.

The Semi-Finals will be played on March 14, 2020 at Durham College in Oshawa with the following match-ups:

  • Semi-Final 1 – 6:00pm – Toronto Idolo vs Toronto United
  • Semi-Final 2 – 8:00pm - Futsal Club Toronto vs Gloucester Celtic
