Canada Soccer has announced the 41 referees and assistant referees that make up the National Referee Program for 2020.
The list includes 15 referees who have been named to the FIFA List of referees and assistant referees.
The 41 national referees and assistant referees will again be supplemented by the NEXTGEN program of 25 top provincial referees who will receive appointments to Canadian Premier League and other professional matches in Canada. Canada Soccer’s Referee Department has announced that FIFA and Canada Soccer List Assistant Referees Richard Gamache and Erina Cho have retired from the FIFA List ahead of the 2020 season. Gamache will remain in the National Program.
“We congratulate the men and women who make up our National List of referees on a successful 2019 which saw the seamless addition of 100 professional matches to the appointment schedule with the kickoff of the inaugural Canadian Premier League season,” said Isaac Raymond, Canada Soccer’s Manager, Referees. “We also send our best wishes to Erina Cho for her professionalism and dedication to the program.”
In addition to the National List announcement, Canada Soccer Referees Carol Anne Chenard, Marie-Soleil Beaudoin, Chantal Boudreau, Stephanie Fortin, and Micheal Barwegen have been selected to join instructors Hector Vergara and Michele Pye as part of the 2020 Concacaf Elite Referee Course from 21-27 January ahead of the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualification tournament in Houston, Texas. Boudreau will remain in Texas having been appointed to the tournament this year along with Canada Soccer referee Myriam Marcotte.
