The Ontario Cup, the Provincial Soccer Championship, is the largest Club competition of its kind in Canada. One of the oldest sporting events in the country, the Ontario Cup was first staged in 1901 and has operated continuously, with the exception of the World War II period. The 2020 Ontario Cup will mark the 105th year of the Competition.
Each year, 12,000 athletes from all across the province compete for the Championship. The competition commences in May, with more than 600 teams drawn into either a Knock-Out round or a Round-Robin style tournament. The Ontario Cup Tournament culminates with the Final Round usually being hosted at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan, with the added prize of a National Club Championship in the Under 15's, Under 17's, Men's and Women's divisions. The Ontario Cup is classified under LTPD as a “Soccer For Life” competition.
There are 17 divisions that compete:
- Under 13 Boys, Under 14 Boys, Under 15 Boys, Under 16 Boys,
- Under 17 Boys, Under 18 Boys, Under 21 Men, Men, Special Olympics
- Under 13 Girls, Under 14 Girls, Under 15 Girls, Under 16 Girls,
- Under 17 Girls, Under 18 Girls, Under 21 Women, Women, Special Olympics
The Ontario Cup Semi-Finals are held at the end of August each year.
There are five permanent hosts: Durham Region Soccer Association, Scarborough Soccer Association, North York Soccer Association, Peel Halton Soccer Association and Southwest Soccer.
These organizations host different divisions each year.
In 2020, the Scarborough Soccer Association will not be hosting and as a result, Ontario Soccer is now accepting bids from District Associations interested in hosting the Ontario Cup Semi-Finals in 2020.
The 2020 Ontario Cup Semi-Finals will be held on August 29-30, 2020.
The deadline for submitting a bid to host the Ontario Cup Semi-Finals is January 18, 2020.
