Ontario teams move on to knockout stage at Toyota National Championships

All six Ontario teams remain in medal contention heading into Day 4

Ottawa St. Anthony sit atop their group with nine points from three straight victories after day three at the 2019 Toyota National Championships Challenge Trophy competition. 

Ottawa lead the way in Group B after defeating Yellowknife on day three with goals from Saviero Panuccio (8’) Trevor Turner (42’) Marco Natoli (52’) Shamir Lubenga (87’). Ottawa’s Colin Gibson and Felice Fornieri shared the shutout for the Ontario champions who have a perfect nine points from three games thus far.

Ottawa will now wait until Sunday to play their final game. They will qualify for the Gold Medal Match on Teck Finals Day with a victory. 

In the Jubliee Trophy, Scarborough GS United drew again, tying Edmonton Northwest United SC 2-2. They remain in contention but need a win today to find themselves in the medal rounds.

Ontario marches on at the U-17 Cup in Charlottetown, as both Ottawa TFC Academy girls and Woodbridge SC boys won their third games of the tournament on a pleasant fall day in Charlottetown.

Woodbridge claimed top of Group B with a 3:0 win over Codiac. Jeremy Opong (27’) scored a wonderful individual goal to open the scoring, while Shaiem Blair (58’) and Nicolaus Stoddart (60’) scored two quick second-half goals to make it a perfect nine points out of nine for the Ontario champions.

Woodbridge face Winnipeg Bonivital SC in their final group stage game today. 

Ottawa TFC Academy appear to be getting stronger each game, with a comfortable win over Moncton Codiac. On target for Ottawa were Flavie Dube (4’, 54’, 67’) with a hat-trick, Emily Smith (38’), Chanelle Chaput (62’), and Devon Vermaire (70’) also scored for Ottawa TFC.

Ottawa TFC face St. John’s SC today in their final group stage game.

Milton Magic won Group A after a goal from Cristian Alfieri (19’) and a brace from Marcus Riviere (31', 42'). They went undefeated in group stage play. Milton face Calgary today in quarterfinal action. 

The Oshawa Kicks also finished atop their group in the U-15 Girls Cup. Mackenzie Scott (5'), Kate Bemrose (33'), and Nicole Painchaud (72') scored for Oshawa who win Group D. Oshawa now face CS Dieppe in the quarterfinals today.
