Play. Inspire. Unite.

Across the province, Clubs range from small local Clubs to those larger in size. Smaller clubs sometimes struggle to provide Match Officials Development, as they often are run by volunteers and struggle with providing the support and resources.

On June 2, South Simcoe United showed that the size of a club is no obstacle.

A total of 19 first-year Match Officials, turned out in record attendance for South Simcoe United’s first ever Long Term Officials Development camp.

Led by Tony Camacho and Kuizan Weekes, Match Officials ranging from Grade 1-4 took part in a day that consisted of both in-class and practical training.

“It was a great experience to engage with young Match Officials who wanted to learn, it was a positive group,” said Kuizan Weekes, LTOD Camp Instructor.

These camps are provided free of cost to Clubs through the Long Term Officials Development program.

Each camp’s material is tailored specifically for the Match Officials that are attending the training.

The students went through a series of activities including Foul and Hand-ball recognition, while also building soft skill techniques like, the importance of communication among game day Match Officials, and having confidence in decision making.

By the end of the evening, Ontario Soccer had equipped South Simcoe United Match Officials with the tools and confidence to succeed for the upcoming season.

“It was truly amazing, it was exactly what our little club needed and our refs. We’ll be back to schedule another one,” said Kim Nicholl, South Simcoe United Administrator.
