Active Start (U4-U5)

Overview

Active Start is an NCCP Community Coaching Workshop.

What do you learn?

  • How to run a practice session that is fun, safe and keeps children actively engaged.
  • How to communicate to this specific age group.
  • You'll leave with a basic toolkit including 12 practice plans.

Who is this course for?

  • The course is designed for the first time coach.
  • The focus is on teaching basic skills and basic physical literacy.

What are the pre-requisites?

Prior to registering for an Active Start course, coaches must complete Respect in Sport and Making Ethical Decisions

What is the cost?

Host Club sets the price.

How long is the course?

4 hours.  

Course Description:

  • Develop a basic understanding Physical Literacy.
  • Information to help coaches understand the development stage of the children they are working with.
  • How to plan coaching sessions considering the development stage of the children coaches are working with.
  • Consider the safety factors involved in running a coaching session

Quick Resource:
Ontario Soccer has created a series of brochures in the form of mini-pamphlets that walk coaches through four of the key physical literacy stages of Long-Term Player Development (LTPD). Each of these resources provide very basic but helpful information through Active Starts, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train and Soccer for Life for volunteer coaches.
