Margaret MacNeill has been added to the roster of Ontario Soccer Summit presenters her expertise will bring another dimension to this year's overall experience as well as serve to bolster the Club Development stream.
MacNeill, an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, will be presenting on "Soccer Hurts - Soccer Heals." Her approach to research is based in critical cultural studies, an interdisciplinary network of approaches attentive to the production of cultures of health and in/activity, power, and how cultural meanings are spun within human relations. This network includes media studies, semiology, sociology of the body, anthropology, post-colonial studies, history, feminist studies of gender, critical public health studies, and political economy.
“Margaret will be speaking on issues that are perhaps not addressed enough in our community and they will bring a fresh perspective to the Ontario Soccer Summit 2017,” said Paul Burns, OSA Club Development Coordinator. “Her talk will serve as a great companion piece to Sheldon Kennedy’s keynote speech on abuse prevention education.”
The host venue for the Ontario Soccer Summit 2017 is the Oshawa Civic Recreation Complex and Trent University and the event runs March 3-5, 2017.
The Oshawa Civic Centre boasts an international FIFA size 100 metre x 70 metre artificial turf playing field that can be configured into two or four fields for on-field learning.
Trent University, which is steps from the Oshawa Civic Centre, will offer an intimate setting, which is optimal for the immersive Soccer Summit learning experience.
