The U-21 Women's Ontario Cup Final took place Saturday, July 22 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

In the semi-finals, the Oshawa Kicks downed the Burlington Bayhawks 3-0 to book their ticket to the final while the Toronto Blizzard edged the St. Catharines Jets 3-1 to advance to Saturday's game.

In the final, the Blizzard had a number of opportunities in the first 10 minutes and if were not for the alert play by Oshawa Kicks’ keeper Vanna Stagollis, they could have easily found themselves up early.

The Blizzard would finally find a way through in the 37th minute when Rebecca Bartosh got on the end of a fantastic free-kick from Malikae Dayes and converted her chance to make it 1-0 Toronto.

The goal would awaken the Oshawa Kicks squad however and they would have numerous chances in the ensuing few minutes but the half would end 1-0.

The second half would begin again with the Blizzard pressuring, creating numerous chances in on net. Stagollis once again stood tall for Oshawa to keep the score at 1-0 Toronto though.

The Blizzard’s Sarah Owusu was in on net in the 86th minute and after her chance was saved she was issued a straight red card for kicking an opponent.

Oshawa, with the man advantage, would push for the tying goal in the final minutes but Michaela Hawthorn was equal to the task in net for the Toronto Blizzard.

Hawthorn would shut the door the rest of the way and help the Toronto Blizzard capture the U-21 Women’s Ontario Cup championship with a 1-0 win.
