Ottawa Fury 2 vs Sanjaxx Lions 2

The opening game of the League1 Ontario Women's Kick Off event lived up to all the hype with the Sanjaxx Lions and the Ottawa Fury putting on a fantastic display of skill in what proved to be a thrilling friendly.

After a tough 30 minutes of back and forth soccer, Sanjaxx would open the scoring in the 33rd minute when Emma Czernuska blasted a shot from 25 yards out to make it 1-0.

Not to be outdone, Ottawa answered right back with a goal of their own when Angelina Gendreau would get in on goal and tie the game at 1-1.

Right after the re-start Sanjaxx would once again grab the lead with a pretty little goal from Vianna Attisano. Sanjaxx buckled down and looked to close things up defensively. For a while it appeared to work before Ottawa produced a little bit of magic when Gendreau would once again find herself in on net. In the 60th minute, she took the ball down with her left foot on the outside of the Sanjaxx keeper and on the first hop she chipped the keeper to find the back of the net.

The two teams would lock it down the rest of the way and finish the game tied 2-2.

Durham United FC 2 vs North Mississauga Panthers 0

Durham United jumped out to an early lead in their League1 Ontario Women's division innaugural game and then did enough defensively to hold on to win 2-0.

Taylor Potts opened the scoring for Durham in the 16th minute with a spectacular diving header that got fans at Hamilton's Tim Hortons Field on their feet.

They were still standing two minutes later when Maddie Iozzi lined up a free kick outside the North Mississauga box and blasted a free kick into the top of the net to make it 2-0 Durham.

North Mississauga would return after the half the more determined side. But despite hitting the post twice and the crossbar once they weren't able to solve the Durham defence and the game would finish 2-0 for Durham.

Vaughan 4 Woodbridge 1

Vaughan SC had a strong start to their season with goals coming early and often in a 4-1 win over club rivals Woodbridge Stikers.

Aisha Lewis got Vaughan on the board when she collided with the Woodbridge keeper. In the ensuing chaos the ball fell right to Lewis' foot and she made no mistake in making it 1-0.

Christina Morelli would add another before the half for Vaughan when she broke in down the right wing. The power of her shot would deflect off the Woodbridge goalie's fingers and into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Woodbridge would draw one back after the restart when Chanel Hudson-Marks caught Vaughan napping on the counter in the 54th minute to make it 2-1.

Vaughan would prove too much for Woodbridge on the day though and goals from Nadya Gill and Colleen Beesley put the game out of reach. The final would be 4-1 Vaughan.

ANB Futbol 3 Pro Stars FC 0

In one of the most evenly matched games of the League1 Ontario Kick Off day it took a few moments of brilliance to break what was largely a tactical stalemate.

In the 39th minute ANB Futbol's Kelsey Araujo showed a flash of that genius when she intercepted a Pro Stars clearance, undid her defender with clever footwork and buried the opening goal while nearly standing on the touchline. It left outlookers slackjawed.

It was more of the same in the 53rd minute when ANB's Giulia Zanardi made a one woman effort towards the goal. After shaking off several challenges, Zanardi slotted the second goal of the game calmly into the back of the net.

Araujo added her second on the day with another splendid effort as she broke away from two defenders and deposited into the back of the net by making the goalie miss. It would end there at 3-0 ANB Futbol.
