Match Report

The first half was a test of wills between Whitby 1999A and the Woodbridge Strikers.

Both teams pressed to score but were turned away time and again by the respective keepers. The Woodbridge keeper, in particular, was challenged on numerous occasions and was forced into making several acrobatic saves to keep the score knotted at 0-0 going into the half.

After a slow start to the second half by Woodbridge, they countered up the wing and dished it off to Vanessa DeVellis. DeVellis controlled the ball calmly and blasted it on net. The keeper struggled to control it and it squeaked past her into the net for the first goal of the game.

Whitby was undeterred though and only minutes later they would charge down field and be rewarded for their efforts. Julia Listro was pushed wide by the Woodbridge defender and just when it looked like she had lost her chance, her curling shot beat the keeper from a near impossible angle.

With just five minutes left in the game it looked like Whitby had missed a major opportunity to score the go ahead goal when they bounced it off the post from in close. But just minutes later, they would get a chance to redeem themselves when a similar goal mouth scramble led to Whitby's second goal as Jaelin Hoo-Hing converted from the line.

That would be all they needed, as Whitby 1999A captured the U-16 Girls Ontario Indoor Cup championship.
