The Canada Soccer 2016 Futsal Canadian Championship, hosted April 9-10 by the Ontario Soccer Association in Oshawa, Ontario, will include a number of additional elements, as Canada Soccer continues to grow this area of the game.

These elements will complement the highlight of the weekend, the two-match Futsal Canadian Championship final between Toronto United Futsal of Ontario and Sparte FC of Québec.

This year, the Futsal Canadian Championship will include futsal-specific coaching and referee clinics, a women’s exhibition between Futsal Club Toronto’s women and Québec’s women’s select team, and the OSA U-16 boys final.

The Futsal Canadian Championship weekend will also provide the National Futsal Team an opportunity to host a training session as head coach Kyt Selaidopoulos prepares the team for its two play-in matches against the USA ahead of the CONCACAF Futsal championships in Costa Rica  May 4-5, 2016. The top four CONCACAF finishers will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Columbia 2016, which runs September 10 to October 1.

This is the second Futsal Canadian Championship after last year’s inaugural event in which Ontario’s Futsal Club Toronto won the two-match final by a combined score of 13-7 over Québec’s Albiceleste.

Canada Soccer, in partnership with its members, promotes the growth and development of the game in Canada. Futsal provides another avenue through which the game can grow in communities across the country.
