Ontario Soccer is excited to announce the opening of registration for a new Goalkeeper Coach Diploma which begins March 14, 2024, in a new blended learning format.

The course will offer a theory component, which will be delivered online, and an in-person practical component, which will take place at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre (formerly know as the Ontario Soccer Centre) in Vaughan, Ontario.

Ontario Soccer Goalkeeper Coach Diploma

Overview: The Goalkeeper Coach Diploma course is produced by Ontario Soccer. The course combines theoretical & practical components of how to effectively coach goalkeepers. Furthermore, it is a prerequisite for Canada Soccer’s Youth Goalkeeper Licence. Coaches intending to apply for next year’s course must be certified by the application cycle in the Fall.

Learning Outcome:

The workshop modules target the following subject matter:

• Role of the Goalkeeper and the Goalkeeper Coach
• Methodology of coaching a Goalkeeper
• Planning a session for a Goalkeeper
• Shot stopping: Where they come from?
• Goalkeeper-specific fitness, agility and nutrition

Pre-requisite:

• Learn to Train or Soccer for Life (Trained)
• NCCP Make Ethical Decision (MED) Workshop + Online Evaluation
• Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders (Soccer)
• NCCP Making Head Way in Sport (Soccer)
• NCCP Emergency Action Plan
• NCCP Understanding the Rule of Two

Course Fee: $475

Licence Validity: Upon successful completion of the Ontario Soccer Goalkeeper Coach Diploma the coach will receive a coaching licence valid for five (5) years. The licence may be maintained by following the Ontario Soccer Maintenance and Renewal Process.

• Thursday, March 14, 2024 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Sunday, March 17, 2024 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, April 2, 2024 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, April 10, 2024 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

In-person Field (Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre):

• Friday, April 5, 2024 – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Application and Registration

Coaches are required to apply for the course via Coach Centre, providing proof of their completion of the pre-requisites. Upon being approved, coaches are then able to register for the course they are interested in.
