On the final day of the 2023 MilkUP Ontario Cup Finals, Glen Shields Juventus FC battled London Alliance FC for the U14 Girls Championship. Glen Shields received their gold medals Sunday afternoon at the Ontario Soccer Centre after winning the match 3-2. 

Glen Shields’ Fernando Lobo made the first scoring attempt in the 3rd minute with a long range shot that went just over the top of the net. London Alliance had the next big scoring chances in the 18th and 23rd minute by Viviana Del Vastro, but neither hit the back of the net. 

Kali Burnett got her team on the scoreboard just before half, after she made a perfectlt-timed run behind the defenders and fired a measured shot into the bottom left corner in the 38th minute. But that wasn’t enough for Burnett. Just a few minutes later, during added time, Glen Shields had a corner kick which Burnett parlayed into a header, bringing the score to 2-0 at halftime. 

London Alliance came back for redemption in the last 40 minutes, playing far more aggressive on offense after half. Claire Edwards secured their first goal in the 48th minute off a high looping shot, which got the team even more fired up. 

Burnett was fouled in the 61st minute, giving Glen Shields the opportunity for a penalty kick. Julia Leppard took advantage of that chance, scoring a third goal for her team. 

After several strong attempts throughout the match, London’s Del Vastro finally got her goal in the 71st minute, sneaking a quick one past Glen Shields’ goalkeeper. Though London fought hard to tie the score, Glen Shields’ tough defense secured their 3-2 win, hardly allowing London another chance to shoot.
