Vaughan Azzurri defeat Cherry Beach Toronto Monarchs 3-1 to win the 2023 Boys U17 MilkUP Ontario Cup

Play. Inspire. Unite.

The energy level at the U17 Boys Final in the 2023 MilkUP Ontario Cup Final did not disappoint, with the yells of excited spectators filling the air at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Vaughan Azzurri won the Sunday evening match 3-1 over the CB Toronto Monarchs.

It was a slower start, with both teams defending well in the opening minutes. The first major scoring attempt came in the 20th minute with a header from CB Toronto’s Gabirel Pietrobon, but before the team could celebrate, Match Officials confirmed that the player was offside.

Vaughan used this blip in the game to open the scoring. In the 21st minute, Michael Iacopini took a shot, which was blocked by CB Toronto’s goalkeeper. However, Vaughan’s Jasiri Arendse-Hutson was in the right place at the right time and put the rebound into the back of the net.

Just before halftime, CB Toronto squandered a great chance to tie the score with a missed penalty kick from Damiano Totten. He made up for it less than a minute later when he tipped the ball over Vaughan’s goalkeeper and straight into the net, putting CB Toronto on the scoreboard and getting both sides fired up for the second half.

Vaughan retook the lead almost as soon as the half started in the 46th minute when a free kick loose ball fell to Centre-Back Maor Roitberg who struck the ball right into the top corner.

CB Toronto kept fighting and seemed poised for a comeback until Vaughan was awarded a penalty kick in added time. Jackson Drewanz nailed his shot, making the full-time score 3-1.
