Instructor

Under the structure of the CSA rules and regulations on Referee Development, the OSA has a strong Instructor Training Program that was launched in 2008.  This focuses on the training of new instructors as well as on-going training and education of current instructors.

How to Become an OSA Instructor

There are a number of steps one must take to become an OSA Certified Instructor:

  • Submit an application and resume (soccer related) when the call for applications is made from the OSA
  • Meet the requirements set by the OSA to be an instructor
  • Attend the training session hosted by the OSA
  • Get evaluated twice by OSA Instructor Evaluators, either at the in-service training session or while teaching a session at an OSA Referee Certification course (will be set by the OSA)


Requirements to apply:

  • Must have been at minimum a District referee for 5 years
  • Must have at minimum 10 years referee experience
  • Preferred (but not mandatory) to have instructing background

Current Referee Instructor Courses

The OSA hosted a number of Referee Instructor Courses in March 2009.  In February and March, 2011 we will once again be holding New Instructor Courses.  On February 19th-20th, New Instructor courses will take place at both Durham Region Soccer Association  and York Region Soccer Association.  To register for this course, please  1) fill out the 2011 New Instructor Application Form, seen below;  2) send in your resume;  and 3)  send in a Vulnerable Sector Check from your local Police Station to Lyndon Hooper at lhooper@soccer.on.ca

General Instructor Information

To maintain your instruction level (district or provincial) you must meet the following criteria:

  • Instructed a minimum of 4 courses at the accredited level (within two years)
  • Attendance at the bi-annual in-service training
  • An evaluation of instruction by The Canadian Soccer Association or Provincial Association to the standard determined by The Canadian Soccer Association.

Mini and Entry Level courses
On-going education sessions for referees up to Provincial Referees

If you are interested to become an instructor even if the OSA is not hosting a course currently please email Lyndon Hooper at
lhooper@soccer.on.ca to be included in the mailing when a call for applications is sent out.

The OSA may not host new instructor training course every year. When they will, information will be posted on the website with information on how to apply.
