The Chill quickly heated up the action as their lively play created several great scoring chances in the opening five minutes.
It was the Simcoe Crew, however, that opened the scoring against the run of play in the 8th minute when #8 Joey Ambrosini gave his side the lead with a terrific right-footed strike into the top right corner from about 25 yards out.
Thunder Bay quickly re-grouped and equalized in the 27th minute when #14 Gavin Hoy’s cross from the right wing deflected off of a Simcoe defender and into the net.
The second half saw much of the same fast-paced and exciting action with Thunder Bay scoring their second goal of the game in the 62nd minute when #14 Gavin Hoy struck into the tight right corner of the net.
This highly physical contest tested the limits of both squads as the Simcoe Crew pushed desperately for the equalizer in the 4 minutes of extra time.
The Chill’s defenses parried every attack and maintained their 2-1 lead, however, and the Thunder Bay Chill were crowned Ontario Cup Champions.
